Day 18: How Much Do Americans Spend At Christmas?

It is the Christmas season, which means that the money is flying! But how much exactly are they flying in the United States? Listen and you will know!

Hi and Welcome to the advent edition of my podcast My Life and Other Funny Stories. In this edition, I bring you a new short Christmas-themed episode every day of December until Christmas. If you want to read the transcript of this episode, click the link in the description!

Today, we will look together at some statistics concerning Christmas spending in the USA!

First, let’s run some numbers – and if it is difficult for YOU to understand numbers, I recommend you check out the transcript.

In my research, I found out that 96% of Americans buy presents for their family over the holidays. 96% is roughly 326,875, 551 Americans – yes, I did the math.

53% of Americans start Christmas shopping before the end of October. In the article I read, it is said that an average American spends around 1000 dollars on Christmas presents. When we take into consideration their salaries, it is a one-week salary. Because they have much higher average wages – but also prices- than we do in the Czech Republic.

The reports say that the spending got higher every year since 2008 and it will probably continue. Is it the same for you? Do YOU spend more and more money every year? And how much do you spend? I try to keep it low – I don’t want to give people things they don’t even need just so that I give them something. I only give gifts to my family, especially my nephew and niece since they are little and love Christmas.

Because the spending is getting out of hand…

And now you know!
