Rudolph the Reindeer- Santa’s trusty helper with a red nose. Everyone, who knows Santa Claus, also knows Rudolph because without him, Santa wouldn’t probably finish with his Christmas gift-giving. But where did he come from? We talked about the birth of Santa Claus so today, we will talk about the birth of a red-nosed reindeer.
Hi and Welcome to the advent edition of my podcast My Life and Other Funny Stories. In this edition, I bring you a new short Christmas-themed episode every day of December until Christmas. If you want to read the transcript of this episode, click the link in the description!
In today’s episode, we we will talk about the birth of a red-nosed reindeer- Rudolph.
The history of Rudolph THE Reindeer is not so long because he was – tun tun tuuun- created by marketers! He was brought to life as a marketing play by a shopping mall called Montgomery Ward. They paid a writer Robert May to write an original children’s book so that they would get children into their shops. In 1946, May created a story about a reindeer with a bright nose which became instantly popular. I will read you the description of the story:
Rudolph, a reindeer who has an unusual red nose, is excluded by other reindeer because of this. One stormy Christmas Eve, Rudolph manages to prove himself to Santa Claus to be a capable reindeer and Santa asks him to lead his sleigh for the evening.
And that is the history- pretty interesting that it was once again created for marketing, huh?
And now you know it all.
